It's been a while since I've felt this good about making a post, but I believe the time is here. After a long dry spell, broken promises, disagreements and things not going our way I've finally found "The team." yes, we are "The team." :'D
For the first time in a long time, I truly think Eclipse now has a solid team with solid developers who have a passion for this shit and want to make the site better than what it ever was and I hope you support us all the way. It has been a real struggle trying to make things happen and hell we're not even there yet, but I see promise and I see light at the end of the tunnel of consistent fuckups. I can't say I've been the best at leading this site up until now and I still have many things to learn, but I'm learning...learning and constantly evolving into less of a jackass.
Without dragging this out I'd like to introduce "The team." Administration: :Link: Marsh Agoraphobic Gwen
We all know that the server that hosts Eclipse is having some issues; Unfortunately, we won't be able to fix it until the new site is ready, so in the meantime, we've created a server on Discord so we can all still chat until we release the new site.
Eclipse is changing a lot behind the scenes, and one of those changes is how the community is going to be managed.
I still own the eclipse domains, the website, etc., but I am stepping down as the “forum owner”, and joining the ranks of the other admins. When the “owner” title was introduced, the forums were starting to feel more corporate, and less like a community. We need to come together towards fixing this place, and I think the best way to do that would be to bring the life and fun back into the community.
Eclipse was and should be a community for game developers again; not a company to try and squeeze the money out of the members’ pockets. When I bought eclipse from Amish, we changed a lot, but I don’t think we changed enough, unfortunately. This is the first of many steps to try and mend the wounds caused by poor “management”.
When I first joined, 7 years ago, I loved coming here, hanging out with you guys, occasionally making games, and just joking around. There were definitely some members that tried to turn the place into a cesspool of negativity, but we thrived by continuing to just have fun and make games.
We’re going to make eclipse the community that you knew and loved once again, without all of the corporate nonsense.
There will still be business-y things in the background, but the main focus for the community will be to be a community—nothing more.
The reason I'm posting here today is because Eclipse needs help in order to switch forum software! The new IPB license will cost somewhere around 200$ I'm asking the community to help raise that! Eclipse is setting a donation goal of 200$ in order to complete the switch. After the switch real development of the website can begin as MyBB is holding us back from any plans of promotion or anything along those lines.
For those who do donate all you'd have to do is send me a message, you'll get a new group on the new site and you'll also have access to something in store that other members wont be able to get their hands on easily and of course my gratitude. That is all I can release for now. The people who donated will be listed in this topic and elsewhere so that they may claim their prize on the new site.
You can find the donation button on the right side of the shoutbox or message me for details. Thank you.
We're planning to make yet another switch, we're reverting back to IPB. I know you guys are a bit fed up with the switches and hopefully this is the last one for a while. We can't do what is needed using MyBB as it's limited for the plans in mind. The engines will still be worked on and a version of this site will be up until the changes are complete before making the switch. There is no expected date as of now, but you will be alerted before the switch happens. Expect some downtime during the switch and hopefully we can bring you some cool features along with the switch! Due to this, do not expect any major site updates for a while as they will be meaningless.
I'm aware some of you thought the last software we used was fine, however there were problems on the development side which were preventing some updates. We don't expect to have this issue since the last one was induced from an inherited IPB license. This license will be purchased rather than inherited. Thanks for your time.
