Darkness Exhumed - A survival sandbox game with monsters!

Darkness Exhumed is a survival sandbox game with monsters!

The game revolves around building a base and staying alive, while dominating the world. The game focuses heavily on building mechanisms to aid your surivival however it is possible to survive without, Zombies can break blocks and will eventually force you out of your current location, causing you to constantly move around the map to survive. The game when finished will feature multiplayer and will keep receiving updates for a while afterwards.

We do have an indieDB page! (Most updated source)

The website!

I like the idea, I hope you find a good pixel artist.
You’ll need a really good, matching art style to pull off a zombie survival game.

doesnt look too bad for a start 🙂 what libraries do you use?
and 1  thing: gui should probably drawn above everything else (trees are over the hp-bar in the video). I’d recommend rendering everything from the gui on a seperate image and render this gui-image on the buffer-image (you use double-buffering right???) at last.

good luck, i’m pretty interested in this 🙂

At the moment I’m not using any libraries. Also I didn’t even notice that the HP bar was rendered behind the trees until you pointed it out. I’ll fix that right away. Thanks 😄

I’m not using any libraries

that’s not true (100% sure). But i guess what you mean is that you use java’s native libraries (java2d, swing, java.util etc.) If you need any help, you can pm me I’m using java for some time now by myself….

I didn’t really ever think of those as libraries until now. I always saw it as things such as Slick2D and LWJGL xD
It’s just the native ones then 🙂

Necroposting doesn’t count here does it? I keep forgetting to update this post.
I found a pixel artist, she’s pretty new to it (not art in general) and I also found a musician. They both take constructive criticism well and I’m sure they’d appreciate any that you have. Here is the latest gameplay video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zLd0oCGQs8  (a few months old now though)

Here is a music update video which showcases the music in its current state.

Here is an image of the foundations of multiplayer, which is a feature I’ve been working on the past week or so. http://i.imgur.com/xlCZH.png

Here is an image of some of the water tiles (which definitely need work)

We also have a name for this project now, Darkness Exhumed. Which can be found at Darkness-Exhumed.co.uk

As always you can follow me on Twitter. https://twitter.com/Slooowpoke

Thank you, constructive criticism is extremely welcome on any aspect of the game.

Just finished uploading our multiplayer updates video! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nPYofSgP7s&feature=youtu.be

We also got a indieDB page up (because they are all the range xD)

And we had some press coverage (sort of)

Feedback appreciated.

I’ve redone the website and put up a video to show how right clicking works.
We also had even more press coverage!

The website (we now have a forum aswell, join us if you like!)
Any feedback as always is appreciated.

This game looks pretty awesome! Nice job!

Can we currently play multiplayer? I wanna play. 😛

Very soon! I promise. I have most of it lined out, fixing a few bugs with the right click menu and I can pile on content into it to make it have a challenge/purpose. I’d also like to redo the combat soon. 0.04 will have hopefully a playable singleplayer and maybe multiplayer.

Quick update, yesterday we released a small update to build up 0.04.

0.036 has most of the features of 0.04.

This looks an awful lot like Jungle’s engine; you two must be using the same tutorials. That being said, it looks good.

Could you link me please? We might be using the same library, LWJGL.

Lol no they’re not using the same libraries, neither are they using the same language :P. Keep going with this man, looks great :).

Ah ok. Thanks!

I don’t use tutorials and I doubt he does either. I use C++, he uses Java.

Again, my game is different. It doesn’t have zombies or fantasy. It doesn’t have single-player– only a really maxed out multiplayer mode, MMO-style. My game uses a different building style, not click-to-build. The crafting system will also be different. I’ll put up my project once Kusy finishes the basic graphics so you can see it in detail.

I aim to take my game in a completely different direction than this one. I wish Slowpoke the best of luck nonetheless. Making a game like this is hard work and I applaud that.

Thanks for clearing that up. :)
