The Creation: _>! Extracted from ‘The Siblings of Chaos’ written by Halfar.
Back when the world was dominated by chaos, when no balance existed, two entities came unto power…
Valenessa, a humble and cheerful being that found happiness in others joy.
There was also Dagan. Dagan was the noble and pround brother of Valenessa, and together, they sought to put an end to the endless madness of the world.
Dagan proposed to his sister that they create two great kingdoms and guide their people as they saw fit. It would put an end to evil and lead the people to order, Dagan had said.
Seeing no wrong in her brother’s proposal, Valenessa asccepted. The kingdoms were established, borders put down, and laws created.
Many years passed, and Valenessa, missing her dear brother, crossed the border to pay him a visit. In her travels, however, she saw that Dagan and his people had become unclean, rueful, and selfish. Monuments and statues devoted to Dagan had planted a sickness in his mind. He was a god, he had said.
Valenessa, knowing that this was not true, (because while the siblings had great power, they were not gods) confronted Dagan.
The battle that soon followed was catostrophic. The peoples of the land fought and killed. Monsters born of the ash and waste from weilders of magic and strange sciences attacked helpless women and children. Dagan and Valenessa nearly killed each other.
To avoid further destruction of the land and people, Dagan and Valenessa agreed to carry the fight into the Underworld. There they waged a war so terrible that the surface of the earth shook with violent quakes.
On and on they fought, and further down the battle carried them. It was not long before they found a stone unlike anything they have ever seen before.
Valenessa called for a cease in the fight to observe this strange object. When Dagan agreed, they inched their way closer and closer to the glowing stone.
Suddenly the glowing intensified, and two beams that resembled lightning shot out from the core and struck the two siblings.
When they awoke, they felt different. Surges of great power pulsed through the brother and sister like the life blood that flows through veins.
It was not long before Dagan screamed. Dagan had solved what Valenessa would have if given more time. They had been both blessed and cursed. They were indeed gods amoung men now, but they were forever seperated. For the noble loyal Dagan had been proclaimed God of the Dead, and his sister The Goddess of Light.
So horrible was their seperation that Dagan once again struck out at the Valenessa, his new-found power easily disabling the un-prepared goddess. While Valenessa waited for death at the hand of her own brother, Dagan said this;
‘I will forever rule the dead and the evil, just as you will always rule the living and the good. It is natural then, dear sister, that we seperate forever. May the kingdoms we have created perish. New kingdoms will be born of course, but never will they obtain the glory of the First Kingdoms. I bid thee farewell Sister… I’m sorry.’
With tears in his eyes the mighty Dagan released his sister and fled into the deepest corner of darkness. He raised creatures of evil and horrors as he went.
Valenessa, also weeping, returned to the surface, and once again began to constuct a life for the peoples of the world.
! Even though Dagan felt limitless power within him there was something he needed to do. The will of the higher gods was something he could not contend with, they commanded him to take a test of valor to prove if he was worthy of godship. Therefor, the higher gods vowed that all of his power would be stripped away if he did not bend to their will. Accepting the task appointed to him Dagan climbed the highest peaks to the north to prove himself worthy. He took the four day journey across searing hot plains, and climbing blistering cold conditions to reach his destination. The bekoning hand of the highest peak revealed itself more as he drew closer to the destiny he sought for. After reaching the top, he stripped away all of his armor and clothing, save for his lower body undergarments. He rose his hands up to the cloudy, snowy sky and screamed for his test to begin. A high powered burst of lightning struck his skin like water upon rock, sending him into a convulsing state where he eventually drifted away to a dream world.
! Even though his task was far complete, he knew that if he did not do this his very soul would violently release itself from every orphus. This was the punishment of the higher gods if the host looked up on the source that gave them godship in the first place. He was given a stone knife and no shield and was forced to battle endless waves of impossible odds, using the powers granted to him sparingly knowing he could not use them for long.
! Dagan’s Uprising:
! Why did Grottoshire suffer from chaotic death and destruction? A common question asked by the curious adventurers I see all the time. When Dagan was blasted with power initially well he and his sister, Valenessa ventured into the underworld to destroy the very power he became corrupted with, a tremor that spread throughout the world was the result. Dagan fled to the deep dark corners of the underworld after a trifle with his sister, raising a plethora of various creatures bread for pure chaos as each foot met the ground. He laid in wait as the power he now harnessed grew within him and was able to command armies and Legion Commanders. Before he made his attack, he disguised himself as a Nobleman and concealed himself from suspicion. Dagan walked the upperworld for days, sending out spies to cover all corners of the world. But there was a particular case he was greatly interested in. Word had reached his ears that a new shipping line had been established to the south of his hometown, one that would outfit his enemies with weapons and armor that were rumored to be smithed out of magical materials. For this, he sent out a creature that would be unseen by all, a creature that needed to be tamed through godly means, a creature who could move through lands like a spirit to a wall. Dagan awaited as his newly found ally scoped out a town known as Grottoshire. Only hours later was he able to receive the knowledge he sought. Once he had the information he ventured just outside of Grottoshire and summoned a staff out of thin air and slammed it into the ground, cracks, that resembled lightning bolts began to fill the ground around his feat as teal light illuminated from within them. The strike to the ground was hard and powerful enough to create a fissure which offered an opening for a small attack force, a few seconds later screams began to fill the summer air as Grottoshire became under siege from forces of his own making.
Norn Faldir Mine:
! _The mine connecting Grottoshire and the Dwarven city Norn Faldir was once full of riches. Thousands of workers would travel to the mine that runs deep underground from all corners of the map to invest time into gathering some of the most precious minerals this world has ever known. It was once the primary draw for people of all ages to mine and distribute their findings for profit and food. even maybe a wench here and there. The flow of riches was booming. Carts of gold, gems, and crystals poured out of the mine every few minutes. Trade with Grottoshire was also going well, people would walk away happy trading furs for gold, crafting materials for gems life was prosperous until all chaos broke loose on the region. Where Dagan’s attack on Grottoshire had a lot to do with the collapse of civilization and the cease of trade, another conflict was on the rise._Shortly after Dagan’s uprising, Dwarven brothers began to downward spiral into a disagreement that lead to a Civil War within the walls of the city. After weeks of ponderance, the people of Grottoshire had begun to realize that the mine was no longer being worked, the spark of the conflict ignited fear into the hearts of all laborers within causing them to flee to their homeland to be miles away from the increasing threat. During the period of the Civil War between half men, one of the warring sides commanded that the entrance to the Norn Faldir Mine be closed ultimately stopping all possible enemy outfitting, production, and tactically halting all oppressors a back entrance to territory. The Mine remains occupied by the otherworldly as remnants of the past cover it’s extent leaving nothing but a memory. Once a place of hard labor, laughs, drama, and booze now sits frozen in time waiting for the next group of people to enter and work it once more.
