Magi:Age of Beyonders

Story:
From the beginning of time, man has feared all that is different.  The magi have witnessed much over the years.  Acts, such as the witch trials have for a long time forced the Magi into hiding along with the races they created.  This would continue until the year 2007 when a Magi decided it was time for a change.  His name was Hayloskien and he had overtaken death itself and became the first known beyonder,to fuel his uprising.  Other Magi attempted to stop him by revealing themselves to the governments of the world and coming to an agreement.  In exchange for technology created by the magi(while normal society was limited by religion and politics), the governments would fund and build several hundred schools for finding and training other Magi hidden amongst the populous to counter Hayloskien and his growing army.  This started a war between the two factions.  The war continued for several generations, yet the system held.  Then the world witnessed the full power of the beyonders as an entire country was annihilated amidst a battle between two beyonders on live TV.  The result chaos gave Cornelius Graham the chance he’d been awaiting.  With ill gotten powers taken from the blood of Hayloskien he not only pulled the churches of the world together under his cross, but took hold of the governments as well.  He unified them giving himself control of the world.  All other details are lost to history.

Current World:

The Church of Graham is the only remaining religion,all else is considered occult.  Magi and the races they created are allowed to live in peace.  But there is a plot below it all.  Allowing Magi to live freely allows the church a better chance indoctrinate them upon their awakening.  The church has their hands in most of the worlds affairs.  Most quests a church member will accompany you.  They can be a great help unless you awaken.  Then your character will have two choices, join or run for your life.

All Beyonders have a name, that is theirs upon awakening.  Cornelius Graham’s is Blasphemy.  It is no mystery why those within the church do not accept these names.  All members of the church have one other binding placed upon them.  The cross all Beyonders amongst the church are required to carry is bonded to their body.  Any attempt to separate from it results in death.  It also goes off if they make any stand against the church or Graham.  It is forced upon all Beyonders no matter how they join.  Some choose death.

However there is hope for a Beyonder.  Many of the cults are lead by one Beyonder or another.  Their homes are often sanctuary for the newly awakened whether you join them or not.  Also,the only way the church members will recognize you as a Beyonder is if you use any of the abilities you receive during or after awakening or take on the forms some of them bestow.

The ultimate haven for the Beyonders is Asgard.  Finding it is a riddle though.  If you do find it you will be safe from the church.  If it suits you there is another option. You can bring down in a massive fireball.  Of coarse keep in mind that it will be well guarded from this.

Before you choose a side there is something to keep in mind.  Some of the Beyonders on both sides(including Graham) have been around for over a thousand years.  I should tell you a Beyonder at third awakening stops aging,some even revert to a younger state.

Terminology

-Magi:Person born with magic drawn from one of several different sources, elemental and man-made.
-Beyonder:A Magi that has reached a level beyond that of their limit.  Breaking into a whole new level of power
-Awakening:The process a Magi’s body goes through to become a Beyonder, in which a percentage of the cells in the body are replaced with cells made of pure energy.  This allows the character to store more power and wield more drastic abilities.  There are three of these total for each race and magic type.
-Excalibur(as a type of item,not the legendary sword):When multiple magic weapons are forged together an excalibur is created.  Only a powerful the power of a Beyonder can create an excalibur

Info/Summary :
-You get to choose from 30 different classes,each with their own character evolutions and abilities.  That’s not to mention all of the hidden classes left for you to find.

-If see a place on the map you can get there as I have never believed in have something there just for show.

-Discover the history left behind, and hidden by the church of Graham, as well as the history of graham himself and how he became a Beyonder.

-Take your personal story one of many directions.  Join the church or revolt, Find Asgard(the hiding place of the beyonders) or bring it crashing down.

-Discover Secrets of the old world,including the many excalibur(type of weapon,not legendary sword) hidden amongst the world.

-Join a town or build your own.

-Join one of many cults riddling the world(as the church is the only official religion in this storyline), or start one.

-Use Weapons and equipment,conventional and not,your sword breaks pick up a lawn gnome!

Time Era :Dark yet non-apocalyptic Future

note:Items on map are there for testers to help me test everything as I work on it.(Including the Pablo,slimes, they give high exp, for helping me test, leveling awakenings(class change) and they have very low stats)  All items will be removed in final stage(except for ones that are actually suppose to be there like the sword in the cave).

All I require is commitment and that when I ask you to do something that you try everything possible to get it done before saying it can’t be done.  I figure experience can be gained as long as you have the right mentality and it’s not like I’m on a deadline here.  If you want to do my tilessets then by all means do my tile sets, even if you don’t do well at first I will help you as much as possible until you can do it up to standard(which is by the way the point they would be in the game).

hmm…  30 classes with 3 awakenings is a lot.  Also, your maps are kind of lacking and blank.  You should put tall grass trees and flowers all around.  Also, your storyline seems kind of lacking.  Its short and doesn’t really explain everything.  Yous should put more information on the setting, and more information on history.  I see you said that there is in game lore of some sort, but still i wouldn’t want to play a game with only that much storyline available, i’d prefer to at least understand how the world tends to work first.

shrugI intend to modify and add to that over time.  The reason I don’t have much on the maps is I haven’t really focused on them,I just built enough to test abilities and such until I finish the classes.  The number of classes wouldn’t be so high if there was a separation for race…

Thanks for the input though.  I do intend to expand on the condition of the played in world.

how’s that?

Explain what a beyonder, and what an awakening is and it’ll be a lot better.  Also, is this like a swords and boes game or a gun game or a future weapons game?  is it fantasy?  is there magic?  explain these things more please.

didn’t limit weapons…just about everything including the stick you just tripped over is going to be a weapon so it’s going to be up to the player as to what they use.  However more powerful weapons are going to be harder to find.  Not to mention they will have a more limited durability(non-re-loadable).

I do agree though that I need to add a reference for terms.

UPDATE:Working on new system for items.  When you double click an item to equip it your character will be equipped with the right version of the item.  As well they will be able to level up items within that system.  Depending on the level of the items you will get different abilities.  For instance the teddy bears later attacks are going to be Teddy Bear picnic(nowhere near as cute as the song, especialy for your target(the picnic)) and Bearagedeon.  Of coarse the majority of this is still in the process of being built.  But I figured better to go and put this system in place now when I don’t have much in the way of weapons and items, rather than at the end when it would be a large undertakeing.

thanks the dragon is a major WIP,been trying to script around the sprite limit,other than a slight timing issue it’s working fine.  I actually accidentally saved over the workshop bmp I was making that one on so it could be a while before I can get the up animation done.
