Learning pixel art [Need tips]

Hi all, im “new” in the forum (I’m registered since 2011 but my first post is today XD).

First of all, my english isn’t perfect, so, sorry if i do any typing error 😧

I’m trying to learn pixel art to make game sprites! Is hard to me, especially the animations.

I recently did a walking sprite, looks like a stretched version of pokemon, lol, and, i’ll show some of my latest pixel arts.

I’ll update this post with news sprites frecuently

Pretty good! I like what I see. I think you’re a better pixel artist than I am, so I can’t really give you any tips. I’d love to see more work though! Keep posting!

Those look very nice! I love the leaf and the pumpkin, can’t wait to see more :)

pretty good the only tip i can give is to do something with the sprites arms the current animation looks a little strange

ADVENTURE TIME! :o

I hereby nominate you in the running for best first post on the forum. (Which isn’t actually a thing, but if it were…)

I like how your animation of the pencil shows your working process. Judging from that, the pumpkin, and the leaf, (to name a few) it seems like you’ve already got the basics down. Past any pixel art tips I could give you!

But with art part of pixel art, I can provide a painter’s tip. Many times you can add dimension by using complementary colours as your darks rather than just darker versions of your colour. What seems black on red would actually be a very dark green, or black on orange would technically be a dark navy. It does have to be very dark though, otherwise it looks odd. Light, on the other hand, is usually just white + colour. Food for thought.

Pumpkin ?? thats an Apple 😉

Very nice work thats not learning anymore that Pro already o.O

There is both a pumpkin and an apple.

This is what the head of your sprites look like. Fix that and it will look a lot better!

Thanks to all, I’m doing the sprites in the other directions! :D

Updated the sprite

Fixed! (Maybe XD)

I’m not good at all with colors, i tried to use diferent tones and not darker versions of the color, i’ll learn that, Thanks :D

Lol, yes, fixed! I made a more square head and a transparent mouth, a little more chibi~

No no no, I think you should move the mouth up. Where it is is no good lol.

Looks weird XD, i’ll try it tomorrow and let’s see :P

Btw, i posted the based sprite walking to the left ~

Oh, something worth mentioning. The arms on your sprites look really strange. They look like they are connected to his chin or something.

Your shading is really lagging behind. Make that your priority for now.

Does this look like an apple to you? :D

Animation can wait. As nook said, work on shading, figure out the proportions of the objects and work on making the shading show depth.

Oh, lol XD, i’ll fix it later

I’ll practice shading and dithering, Thanks! :D

Btw, i’m working on textures too, i did a sample with a devil humanoid slime with a small poor animation XD, just for test the texture!
