Tutorial - Description of Classes

Very easy tutorial for make an information/description of the classes when you are making a new character

No surprise why the pictures are writed in spanish, becouse I am :P

IN CLIENT SIDE

1º In frmMenu create a lbl in picCharacter, and name it lblClassInfo

2º Search in the Code

Under:

Private Sub cmbClass_Click()

Paste:

Dim lblClassInfo As String

Under:

newCharClass = cmbClass.ListIndex

newCharSprite = 0

NewCharacterBltSprite

Paste:

frmMenu.lblClassInfo.Visible = True

If newCharClass = 0 Then

frmMenu.lblClassInfo.Caption = "The Warrior is blah blah blah"

ElseIf newCharClass = 1 Then

frmMenu.lblClassInfo.Caption = "The Wizard is blah blah blah"

Else

frmMenu.lblClassInfo.Caption = "Class without information"

End If

Notes

“newCharClass = 0” is really the first Class

In the caption goes the information of your class :)

Done!

Example:

  • Excuse my english :$

Awesome tutorial! Even though I think there is one similar to this, but we’ve all got our own styles :]

Sexy Zelda MMORPG by the way, nice screenshots on your signature!

Thx :)

Ideally you should make the description be set in the Classes.ini file and not hard-coded, but this gets the job done. ^_^

Or it can be sent from the server which would make the classes.ini in a way hard-coded. (not literally hard-coded)

/off-topic

Your GUI looks good.

Short and Nice tutorial.

Thank You.

Wouldnt it be better to handle it as a case instead of an if statement? Would be tidier and easier to depict more than 3 classes.

Indeed it would. You should look into Select Case Trog!

It’s an easy enough syntax xD

Dim “Case Name” As Long/String/Single blah blah blah

Select case “Case Name”

Case 1

Case 2

Case 3

Case 4

peace look at my link i think i gave enugh detail to how. xD

I was just explaining, I overlooked your link xD

Your link can be confusing to someone who’s new to VB6 DMF.
