i make music, mostly rap music and some electronic music. but recently ive been wanting to make beats that would fit in a game, doing it for the fun of it… since i dont normally make music for games, i will just make tracks for free. tell me what kinda track u want and ill attempt to make it.

heres my soundcloud if u want to hear some of my music: https://soundcloud.com/a-dro-beats

heres some of my attempts at making music for games:

Your song “wink” would I be wrong in assuming a charlie and the chocolate factory (remake) sample?

Here’s a test for you - Dwarves. An underground metropolis of miners, blacksmiths and stonemasons, built out of dark grey rock. They’re working day by day, building, fighting off goblins and other perils, there are cave-ins, lots of gems, gold, the dwarves themselves are covered in dust, their helmets use a sort of glowing stone to light the way forward.

The theme is dark and deep - to represent their way of life and depth of their metropolis. It’s slow - rhythmic, pulsing and repetitive, almost like a work song to keep themselves occupied during their hard daily manual labour.

If the test goes well, I’ll have more for you.

the song Wink was actually a sample from a show called Dexter.

heres what i came up with: https://soundcloud.c…ngcave2/s-qp2d6 (i feel like i could do a better job on it, so ill be making another one. im new to all this so bear with me.)

I really like the beginning. 0:00 to 0:31, the sounds of the mining is just fantastic, that bell on 0:31, definitely has to stay there.

The problem is the synth you used at 0:31 for the rest of the song. I can feel your rap/electronic past coming through, you have to understand this is for a fantasy/medieval game (dwarves) so the theme has to be simplistic, electronic synths don’t exist then, so we need something to replace the synth. I know I said repetitive, but it’s a bit TOO repetitive, after 0:31 it’s essentially the same thing for another 3 minutes.

As for the background noises, like the bells and the background sounds/bottle sounds, keep those, it gives a sort of dreadful feel, like the miners don’t really want to be working and that they’re slaves or something. I really like that feeling it gives off. It really feels as though there’s a background story that the player isn’t quite seeing (or will see if they follow certain quests)

The problem really comes down to experience here. Rap and electronic tracks are really quite repetitive, you just need to tweak your style and understand that this is a game soundtrack. Game soundtracks require that there be some sort of discernible melody, then players will associate this melody with that area, your music has to create a lasting impression. This track has the potential to do that.

TL;DR - remove the synth that comes in at 0:31 - replace it with a dark instrument and create a melody (or two) and surprise me again, and also tidy up the ending, right now this is meant to be a background soundtrack, background soundtracks must loop so the player doesn’t know where it starts or stops, this keeps the feeling going and having odd transitions in/out would just be off. To do this you need to bring in 1 or 2 instruments, build up by adding more instruments, then right near the end bring it to a quick halt by removing instruments and having it end with the same 1/2 (and one more if you think the beginning is too simple) you brought the track in with, so that it matches nicely with the beginning of the song.

I’m eager to hear your revisions to this track, if you can make this work, I’d like to provide you with a use for your talent.

Listened to it multiple times, each time picking out new sound effects, dripping water, this is really a great track and with a little more polish will be amazing.

Hmmm… Do you work for free? If so, after you fix that miner song, I might be interested in you to come to my team. ^^

well yea im currently working for free but only cuz making music for a game is very new to me and im not sure im too great at it yet as u can see from my first track.

But Im sure you can be better :)

bump, edited my first post. heres the updated version of miningcave2. https://soundcloud.com/a-dro-beats/miningcave3/s-UsX35 i used a different synth noise and changed up the melody a lil bit more so its not sooo repetitive.

The replacement for the synth doesn’t fit at all. Plus it sounds electro again around 1:25.

You would be better off with a string or bass, or even a brass instrument instead of a synth.

found the synth in a gaming vst. so i dont see a problem with it. thanks for ur input? not really though…

i already have a brass instrument in the beat, not sure if another one would be right but i guess ill try it.

Not the sound of the synth, the way you’ve put it into the song. -_-
