[WIP] Deadfrost Online

Hello everyone, I’ve been working on this project for a little over half a year and I feel as if now is a good time to post it. Although currently the engine is going under an entire re-code not too much is being doing at the moment but I’d still like to present this project to the public.

Story

! It’s been 15 years since the largest war the world of Aeisthemor has taken part in. It’s the year 1500 and the world is still picking up the pieces. The gods have seemed to almost withdrawn from the world and sightings of them have been scarce because they were the ones to cause the war in the first place. Half the world has been plunged in to a permanent winter full of the creatures left by the gods. Those areas are known as Deadfrost zones. Some of the creatures have crossed over the boundaries of these Deadfrost zones and have invaded cities, villages, and now roam the wilderness. Almost every mage had died during the war and magic is somewhat of a lost art. You are one of the few people able to harness the power of magic in your body. Using magic you have the ability to perform powerful attacks known as sword skills. Use your abilities to drive back the creatures, learn the history of the war, and eventually face off against the gods.

Latest Update (5/15/16)

! Hi everyone, I really put in a lot of work in this week hoping to get as much as possible done. Chances are there probably won’t be an update next week seeing as how finals are approaching very quickly. Anyway, let’s get right in to it! This update contains pretty much all map/world content.
! The Forests
Currently the forests don’t serve much of a purpose besides being pretty scenery to look at. Anyway later the forests will contain things such as quests and monsters to grind on before heading in to a Deadfrost zone. Quite a few of them will also have resources to obtain and various small villages. For most of alpha these small villages will be abandoned but based on community ideas and feedback they will be transformed in to lively mini towns full of short things to do!
! The Battle Ampitheatre
This location is an excellent place to meet up players who wish to fight in a safe environment. You can choose between friendly or betting battles. In a friendly battle no items are lost when you die, only your pride. In a betting battle any gold you bet before the battle will be given to whoever wins!
! Oceranaer
This is a town that is completely on the ocean. Currently it’s main purpose it find low to mid level fishing spots as well as being a cool area to socialize and relax with other players. This later will also be further expanded to be up to twice it’s size based on community feedback.
! Deadfrost Entrances
The last picture displays an entrance to the first Deadfrost zone. This one is a little more chaotic than most will be but it clearly marks the entrance. The main way to know, no matter where you are, is the dead, snow covered trees as well as a small layer of snow.

Re wrote the story a little bit. I wrote it in a way that will give that classical rpg feel of story line the player can follow. Also the quests are still a work in progress but they follow the storyline as well. This story also gives room for future add-on as in chapters and other story add-on

! The world cried. It mourned the dead, the dying, the living. Fire painted the skies a blazing gold so beautiful to its symphony of destruction. In these times, death had no friends, it had no allies, knew no enemy or comrade. Young and old alike, life became nothing but time, a fragment in which one had to make a choice. The blood turned rivers a crimson red for years, lands ravaged, life nearly extinguished.
! It’s being years since the Great War. It’s the year 1500 and the world of Aeisthemor still bleeds its wounds. The Gods, the cause of the tragedy have abandoned their world. Half the world has plunged into an eternal winter plagued by the demons and creatures, living after the Great War. The Deadfrost.

! “Hey Nel, no that close. We are not allowed over there,” Elli cried.
! “Come on it being years, nothing has even happened in 15 years,” Nel replied, staring at the Deadfrost.
! “I know but seeing as your parents died in the war, I didn’t think you wanted to come here,” said Elli, walking to stand beside Nel.
! Nel wiped the tears out of his eyes.
! “Am fine,“ said Nel, doing his best to smile.
! There was a shuffling a few meters a head. They couldn’t see anything as the trees surrounding the Deadfrost made it hard to see.
! “Maybe we should go,” Elli said, with a worried expression.
! “Just a second, don’t ever wonder what is in the dead frost?” asked Nel.
! A growl pierced the winds, spreading chills.
! “We should really go, now!” screamed Elli.
! “What was that?” Nel asked.
! “I don’t want to know and I don’t care. Please, let’s go,” said Elli, completely scared.
! “Fine, but I am not taking you anywhere with me again’
! There was a slight ripple and an arrow shot out of the woods.
! “Elli!” cried Nel.
! Blood soaked his shirt gushing blood. There were footsteps and the sounds of metal. Inhuman growls and howls ringed across the forest.
! “We need to go now Elli,” said Nel, scanning around.
! “It hurts Nel, it hurts,” said Elli, crying.
! “Can you move? Come on get on my back,” said Nel, helping Elli onto his back.
! They dragged themselves towards the clearing. The footsteps seemed to be getting closer and faster. They were being chased. An arrow raced by missing Nel’s head by mere inches.
! “We need to hurry!,” cried Elli, with a wasp voice.
! Another arrow screamed by. Then more followed, one digging into Nel’s leg.
! Nel screamed in pain as his vision turned red. He kept moving, the clearing wasn’t too far away and if they hurried just a little bit they could make it. He had no idea if they would be safe out of the woods but he just had a feeling being in here is what is putting them in danger. There was a flash. He grappled with someone. He could hear voices but, they were distant. Elli was screaming and kicking on his back. Then darkness

! “You fool, you had one task’
! “No matter, the humans broke the curse, we are free to walk their land as they did ours,” said a shadow, rippling in pleasure.

On your first screenshot, the walls of the buildings kind of blend into the docks. That would be the first thing I would suggest fixing. Other than that I’m liking the style, looks a little retro.

On another note, good job with paying attention to the story and having a world map already planned out. I notice with a lot of projects there seems to be a lack of a good story, which is usually what draws people into a game. Keep up the work I want to see more updates haha

On your first screenshot, the walls of the buildings kind of blend into the docks. That would be the first thing I would suggest fixing. Other than that I’m liking the style, looks a little retro.

Putting this project on hold and moving it to the inactive projects until a later time. I currently can’t afford to keep funding the game and I know absolutely no VB6 so I have no way of continuing to make it.

Do you know another language?  Would you be interested in taking on a developer that could help you out with the programming aspect?  I’m looking for work, whether it’s paid or not, but I refuse to touch VB6/EO/Mirage.

Started to continue work on this game again. I’m in the process of transferring most of it the SkyWyre. I’d move this to active projects myself but it appears as if I’m unable to.

I’m pretty bad with predicting release dates but I’m hoping for a beta this Winter with maybe around 4-6 hours of content.
