"Second" Cartography Map

As you can see in my old post, i was working on a cartography map, and now i finished the complete map! 😄

Added more factions, lots of Points of Interest, more cities and used my very own brushes for the mountains/forests/hills/etc.

This is the map at 25% of the original resolution, you can see it at full resolution in my deviantart: http://eragon2589.deviantart.com/art/Oreen-498739608

Again, this is the information of the map:

In this region you can find various “factions” (not including all the creatures/pirates/bandits/mercenaries/evil creatures, etc):
The Morden Empire: Medieval European like empire.
The Janlyn Empire: Medieval Asian like empire.
The Kadel Dynasty: Ancient Egypt like empire (A “demigod” as ruler, followed by the royal family and high priests).
The Safis Kingdom: Medieval Asian like empire.
Haugr Kingdom: Nordic-Viking kingdom.
Craican Empire: Military based empire (think in something like Sparta).
Elven Houses: There’s a Royal House, but each house follows his own leader. The structure is like the Game of Thrones “houses organisation”.
Dwarven Clans: Each Clan follow his own rules and make alliances with other clans when is needed. The “Stone Lords” is the Clan choosen by all the other clans to lead the Dwarfs as one big nation.
Free Cities and Towns: Some cities which follow his own laws and rules.
Barbarian tribes or Monster cities.

There’re some Points of Interest, like the Abyss Rift (a giant crack in the mountains, which have a passage to the underworld/abyss, or something like that), a Jungle Temple (Qakoph), a sunken city, etc.

Comments? 😛

I love these maps you are doing.

I will also have to agree with Agoraphobic. Fantastic Job!

thanks both! 😄

Would you do a map like this for an Eclipse game?

I really like the actual details to it, and the obvious amount of effort taken into it for a single person.

However, I do not really approve how it is built up as far as landmass, the desert seems really off, realistically the map would have to be way bigger in a vertical way, the desert seems way to close to the snow area. The environment seems to be changing a bit to drastically, there should be more than Snow-Forest-Desert, to make it feel more realistically. As for Asmoroch, I really like the idea of a northern island with lava and mountains, however I do not get the feeling of it being very northern by looking at it, since there’s no snow, which in a way make sense, since it is filled with a very hot substance, but it just seems a bit off. Also, what are the Aupes Isle? it seems like a dead place, but it has some kind of forest, but it seems rather dry, I believe this kind of atmosphere is cool though, could be used more liberally around the actual desert to give a better transition.

As for how the actual landmass looks, I am not a huge fan of how there’s just a big island with some smaller around it, it feels like a very empty world as far as exploration outside of it goes, assuming it would be possible in the world that this is in.

All of this is sort of assuming the world is in a somewhat realistic environment.

Also I’m sorry for the extremely poor structure in this, I just wrote as I came up with it, if you want me to elaborate about anything, tell me, I am in a tad of a hurry.

@SkywardRiver

-Perhaps 🙂

First of all, thanks for your comment! 🙂

i have to agree with the desert and the snowy area, they are very close indeed, but i wanted to keep the middle part same as my first map. I’m still trying to understand how the climates works for being more realistic in the future maps…perhaps i should create a larger continent rather than a width one for having more space to make the transitions in a realistic way.

Also for Asmoroch, the true is that wasn’t planned to be a lava island (i wanted to use it as a snowy area too and the Aupes island was the original “dead lava island”). And now that you mention it, it is a good idea to use the textures of the Aupes isle to create the transitions between the environments 😄

For the record, in the next map i’ll create a better “continent-shaped” land instead a big island with a bunch of smaller islands ^^

thanks again! and don’t worry for the poor structure, and i’ll tank you again if you add more detailed comments of what should i improve for making a better and realistic map.

Looks absolutely spectacular. I’ve been trying to draw out my own map for the past few years and always come out with undetailed landscapes, you did this with Photoshop only?
